Nada Surf's Matthew Caws and solo artist Juliana Hetfield made waves in October with the unveiling of Minor Alps, their new indie/alternative rock duo. This week they've released their first full album, Get There. Drawing inspiration from the carefree rock vibes of their previous outfits, Get There is a no-frills demonstration of excellently arranged slacker-rock.

Songs like "Buried Plans," "If I Wanted Trouble," and "Wish You Were Upstairs" pile on the laid-back energy, layering guitars over soft drums to create a summery, beach-set sound. Hetfield and Caws harmonize in subtle, hushed tones over the simple, engaging melodies.

The harder songs, like "I Don't Know What To Do With My Hands," and "Mixed Feelings" play heavily on the melodic guitar work, relying on catchy riffs and tight choruses to convey an almost Superchunk-y vibe.

The second to last song, "Waiting For You," culminates the album's different ideas into a singular track, with the steady, hard drums and soft two-note guitar riff providing an excellent background for the duo's heartfelt vocals. The song is one of the most memorable among an album's worth of enjoyable alt-rock singles.
