Cults performed three songs, "I Can Hardly Make You Mine," "Always Forever," and "High Road" in a WFUV session from Fordham on September 27th. The three songs, all on Cults' latest album Static, sound wonderfully heavy when stripped down to their studio cuts. Brian Oblivion's melodic guitar riff on "I Can Hardly Make You Mine" is used to much greater effect, while the keyboard effects are toned down, making for a more hard-rock version of the track. Madeline Follin's vocals stand out as strongly as ever, sounding positively dream-like through both the soft, wispy "Always Forever" and the darker, funkier "High Road." Altogether, Cults sounds concise in each song, transitioning well into their darker, heavier sound live while still holding to their poppier, electronic roots.
