Last week, our Tuesday trip-out came in the form of together PANGEA's demonic "Cat Man" video; today, it's Tears for Fears who provide the weekly mind melt. The New Wave vets continue their campaign of covering younger indie bands with their take on Animal Collective's "My Girls," which is accompanied by a very psychedelic video.
This clip, which is what I imagine playing Myst on shrooms must be like, takes us on a pulsating, pixelated journey through a computer-generated landscape. Even though I have close to no idea what's going on visually, it meshes well with the relatively faithful cover. Beginning rather strangely with a bitcrushed vocoder, "My Girls" quickly explodes into a Balearic-tinged stomper, with Roland Orzabel and Curt Smith giving Panda Bear and Avey Tare a run for their money with their crystal clear harmonies. Without a doubt, Tears for Fears win the "Cool Indie Dads" award for 2013.
If you haven't already, be sure to check out Tears for Fears' covers of Arcade Fire's "Ready To Start" and Hot Chip's "And I was a Boy from School."
