Hometown Los Angeles sisters Haim played the big outdoor stage for Jimmy Kimmel last night. Check it out:

2013 was a huge year for Haim, as they were catapulted from indie rock darlings to pop rock heavyweights with their debut album Days Are Gone. Danielle Haim is a phenomenal performer, holding down lead vocals and guitar. Older sister Este proves herself to be a really good bass player, able to hold down the bottom end with a great sense of groove and raw rock power. Younger sister Alana contributes on guitar and keyboard. It's almost comical to see Danielle as the focal point, flanked by the hair and legs of her sisters, but they have the talent to really pull it off.

"Forever" shows the band's indie rock sensibilities, with their willingness to explore danceable disco flavored pop. You can also hear some of Vampire Weekend's "Hey Ya" in the song, which may have subconsciously played into the song's creation. Toward the end of "Forever," things break down and then build back up; it's ambitious for a 4 minute talk show performance and it works. "The Wire" starts a little like Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" as Danielle plays a bluesy guitar part over a strong rock backbeat. We also get Alana and Este taking vocal leads, as the full force of these three ladies is felt on the tune. Hopefully they can keep things going and the first album is only the beginning of a great career that will produce plenty more good music.
