"Till the End of the Day" - Fuzz (Kinks Cover) [Bandcamp Stream]

Fuzz, Ty Segall's stoner rock project, have just released a ridiculously fun cover of the Kinks' classic "Till the End of the Day" as part of Famous Class Records' "LAMC" (Less Artists More Condos) series of split 7" records. Stream it, as well as CCR Headcleaner's B-side "Free the Freaks," above.

Compared to the original, Segall and Co.'s version adds some urgency, brutality, and most importantly... fuzz. Were it not for some more modern-sounding guitar riffing, this rough-edged cut would sound right at home on Nuggets, a compilation of rare '60s garage rock that came to influence early punk rock. Looking backwards, Fuzz are able to imagine an alternate reality in which punk music preceded the Kinks, and thus led to a much less clean-cut version of the Kinks. The result? A song about a good girlfriend becomes a song about a badass girlfriend.
