2CELLOS is a duo that is known for playing great cover versions of popular songs on cellos. They are a YouTube sensation of sorts. Watch video of their version of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" above, recorded on July 3rd, 2013 at the Roman Colosseum in Pula, Croatia.
It's a special performance, taking place in cellist Stjepan Hauser's hometown. The ancient colosseum is beautiful, and you can see the guys giving great energy in their performance. Using cellos to play the guitar music is very cool, stretching the boundaries of their instrument. These aren't typical cellos, as they're plugged into loud amplifiers and the traditional wood body has been replaced by just a frame - in order to minimize unwanted feedback as the wood vibrates. By the end of the performance, we can see that their bows are coming apart and they're sweating. It's a challenging tune, and they play it masterfully.
