Ray LaMontagne is getting ready to release his next album, Supernova, on May 6th. Above, listen to the 2nd single from the album, "Airwaves," on YouTube. The song is also available on Spotify.

The song is a throwback to Van Morrison's style of folky, jazzy rock from albums like Moondance. Perhaps a little darker than that, you can also hear bits of Dr. John and JJ Cale. Acoustic guitar dominates the soundscape, next to heavily processed hand percussion, slide guitar, upright bass, organ, and an instrument that could be a violin or a keyboard. There's very dense production, with a lot of flourishes of different instruments coming together to make a single cohesive song. It's a beautiful, haunting track that is certainly going to raise anticipation for the official album release. The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach was involved in the album's production, and you can hear that it sounds very pristine.

Ray LaMontagne "Airwaves" Lyrics:

Where're you going Rusty James?
To rumble on miles and change
What you doing Patty Sue?
She says "whatcha thinking?"

I'm coming with you
I'm coming with you

Rolling out of East L.A.
Making our way to Santa Fe
Man, sure do look pretty, she said
'Feels so good to get myself out of the city'

Through the airwaves
Can't you feel the fall out?
It's in the airwaves
Can't you hear me calling out?

(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
(Help me, help me, jump and shout)

Sitting on Landis Hill
Staring out at Beverly Hills
Everybody moving so fast
Makes you feel like you're already part of the past

Through the airwaves
Can't you feel the fall out?
It's in the airwaves
Can't you hear me calling out?

(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
(Help me, help me, jump and shout)

Where're you going Rusty James?
So rumble on miles and change
What you doing Betty Sue?
She says 'whatcha thinking?'

I'm coming with you
I'm coming with you
I'm coming with you

(Help me, help me, jump and shout)
