The AV Club continues its Pioneering video series with a performance and interview from Detroit's Protomartyr. Watch the videos below.
"Down On The Street" - Protomartyr (The Stooges Cover):
Today is Iggy Pop's 67th birthday, so it's a fitting tribute to watch these guys play a cover of The Stooges' "Down On The Street" at an intimate Ann Arbor show. The segment was filmed at the Michigan Union Ballroom, which is where Elekra Records talent scout Danny Fields first saw The Stooges before signing them in 1968.
The cover is a raw, high energy burst of old school rock, with frontman Joe Casey's powerful vocals sitting above the walking bass and fuzz-addled guitar.
In the short interview segment, the band talked about their influences, the history of The Stooges, and discussed a peanut butter-related hypothetical scenario.
