Jack White has just shared the title track from his upcoming album Lazaretto, and it's surprising in a number of ways, most of them relating to it sounding a lot like Rage Against the Machine. Stream it above, via YouTube.

With Jack White adopting a delivery thats the closest he's come to rapping since the "Waking up for breakfast, burning matches..." part of the White Stripes' "There's No Home for You Here," the song begins with a choppy, processed riff that could be construed as Morello-esque. The similarities only heighten as the song goes on though, with White rapping in Spanish and the guitar solo at 1:25 sounding like any one of Morello's air raid siren solos on Rage's first album.

It's jarring to hear White utter the line "I'm so Detroit I make it rise from the ashes" towards the end of "Lazaretto," mostly because it sounds a lot like something that Eminem would say, but also because it's a rare occurrence of a rocker jacking hip hop phraseology. Ever the virtuoso, White makes all of these out-of-character elements of "Lazaretto" seem effortless and awesome, making us even more excited to hear what the rest of the record has in store.

Another version of "Lazaretto" was released on Record Store Day, billed as the world's "Fastest Released Record," and copies of the limited 7" have gone for as high as $650 on eBay.

Jack White "Lazaretto" lyrics:

My veins are blue and connected
And every single bone in my brain is electric
But I dig ditches like the best of 'em
Yo trabajo duro
Como en madera, ¿y eso?
Como en madera, ¿y eso?

And even God herself has fewer plans than me
But she never helps me out when my scan's for free, though
She grabs a stick and then she pokes it at me
When I say nothing, I say everything
Yeah when I say nothing, I say everything

They put me down in a lazaretto
Born rotten, bored rotten
Making models of people I used to know
Out of coffee and cotton
And all of my illegitimate kids have begotten
Thrown down to the wolves, made feral for nothing
Quarantined on the Isle Of Man
And I'm trying to escape any way that I can, oh
Any way that I can, oh

I have no time left
Time is lost
No time at all, throw it in a garbage can
And I shake God's hand
I jump up and let her know when I can
This is how I'm gonna do it

They wanna blow down the prison
They're lighting fires with the cash of the masses
And like the dough I don't fall down
I'm so Detroit I make it rise from the ashes
