"Want It" - Kelela & Tink [SoundCloud Audio Stream + Behind The Scenes Video]

Kelela, Tink, and DJ Dahi have teamed up to create a new track, "Want It," for music website Yours Truly's "Songs from Scratch" series. Check it out above.

The "Songs from Scratch" series is just that -- Yours Truly gets artists and producers together in a room to create a brand new song. This episode's combination of Kelela, an L.A. based R&B artist, and Tink, a Chicago based rapper and artist, resulted in a minimalist, sensual track. Kelela's hushed baby voice combined with Tink singing background in her higher register makes the song sound very angelic, especially with the light drum beats produced by DJ Dahi (of great rap productions such as Drake's "Worst Behavior" and Kendrick Lamar's "Money Trees"). The lyrics are full of sexual energy, describing a strong physical attraction to a man who is seeing someone else. Tink also slays on a rap verse near the end of the song.

Yours Truly has also released the behind the scenes video shown below. It shows a really fascinating song-creating process, with DJ Dahi likening his role as producer to a "psychiatrist," and really highlights how important it is for a producer to get a sense of the vibe and personalities of the artists.
