R&B singer-songwriter Terius Youngdell Nash, better known by his stage name The-Dream, has released a lyric video in response to social issues relating to race, in addition to other topics. The powerful lyrics are accompanied with images of rallies, speeches, riots, and hope. You can stream the video above.
This video's release comes at a time when race is prominent in the news once again due to comments made from Los Angeles Clippers basketball owner Donald Sterling. The piano driven song features lyrics that are emotional and recall memories of childhood struggles as images of the ghetto and police brutality are shown. The chorus "I'm feeling real black right now" supports the song's message that being black isn't about a skin color or a race, it's about feeling isolated in the world of the 99%.
The-Dream's latest album, IV Play, features guest appearances from Beyonce and Jay Z and is available on his website.
