Kelis stopped by Conan O'Brien's show last night and performed "Rumble" off her recent album called Food. Watch above, via the Team Coco official YouTube channel.
"Rumble" is one of Kelis' songs that actually isn't about food. It's a breakup song, and the lyrics can't help but remind us of her messy divorce from rapper Nas that happened in 2010. The opening and drum groove actually sound a lot like the Houndmouth song "On The Road" but this has more of an old school R&B / vocal jazz kind of vibe. Kelis has a unique vocal sound that's a little deeper and darker than some of her peers. During this performance, she's backed by a 13 person band - drums, bass, guitar, 2 keyboards, 7 person horn section, and a backup singer - which we're hoping she'll bring with her on tour coming up. There's a real Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings kind of vibe here.
