Only a few miles away from his hometown, Kendrick Lamar took to the stage at the inaugural iHeartRadio Music Awards last night. He paid tribute to California and to the late, great Tupac Shakur. Watch the performance above.

After an introduction from Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds, the performance began with a short story of how Lamar was inspired by watching Tupac and Dr. Dre shoot the video for "California Love" only a few blocks away from his home. Kendrick then appeared on stage from a sea of fans decked out in Top Dawg Entertainment attire. He channeled his late idol as he flawlessly rapped Tupac's verse from "California Love." After a small transition, Kendrick started things back up with the second half of his own single "m.A.A.d. City" from his 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d. City.

Lamar also saluted other late rappers who hailed from Compton including Eazy E and Nate Dogg. The entire performance was a dope celebration of artists from Death Row Records and the city that produced them.
