Last night, NBC aired a 1970s-esque variety show special titled The Maya Rudolph Show. Musical guest Janelle Monáe was there to perform "Electric Lady" off of last year's album of the same name. Monáe performed with Raphael Saadiq on guitar, who served as Rudolph's band leader for the night. Watch the performance above.
Though variety shows involve big, energetic musical numbers, nobody displayed the amount of energy as Monáe did last night. She started off the track by dedicating the song to "number one electric lady, Maya Rudolph." She then dances her way from the band pit to center stage by shuffling and twirling through the audience. By the time she moonwalks, it's clear who the true electric lady is. Halfway through, she breaks out in rap, making her mentor Big Boi proud.
