On April 4th, 2014, Noah Gundersen stopped by to a play a few songs for KEXP Radio. The young singer-songwriter played a collection of songs from his debut studio album, Ledges, which was released on February 11, 2014.

Noah Gundersen seemed to be right at home during his performance at KEXP. The raw emotion of his music flows through your speakers and into your veins as he sings with a wisdom well beyond his twenty-four years of age. The Seattle artist sings of love, loss, and personal conflict with such sincerity that you cannot help but empathize with him. The man definitely has a gift with words, but most importantly, he understands the power of silences. Some of the strongest moments during the performance were when Gundersen paused and allowed the silence to linger. It allows his words to sink as if they were your own thoughts.

Gundersen opens with "Isaiah" and then "Separator" before he takes a few moments to talk with the host, Sharlese Metcalf. The musician talks about the excitement of his first big tour as well as having his music featured in the hit drama Sons of Anarchy. The influence of fellow artists, especially Ryan Adams, is especially evident in the third song, "First Defeat." The simple but hard-hitting lyrics, his poetic pauses, his sister Abby's harmonies, and the echo of his acoustic guitar call back to Adams' solo work. The song builds in the bridge and then breaks back down in the final chorus, mirroring the collapse of his rage when Gundersen whispers, "This will be the last time you take me." Gundersen closes the show with "Dying Now," a strong ballad about the lessons learned in life.
