"Owl John" - Owl John [Official Full Album Stream]

Published August 5, 2014

After a decade of making music with Frightened Rabbit, Scott Hutchinson has now given us his first solo record. Now going under the stage name Owl John, his self-titled LP is a great first step in a different direction. Hutchinson's gritty yet emotional delivery certainly comes through here, if it didn't already on any of Frightened Rabbit's records.

Sonically, Owl John even goes beyond the typical indie instrumentation, and even dabbles with some electronic elements. I think the blend is most noticeable on "Ten Tons of Silence," one of my favorites off the record. Other than "Red Hand," "Hate Music," and "Stupid Boy," which have already been released, great cuts from Hutchinson's debut include "Cold Creeps," serving as the perfect introduction for the album and what's to come, "Songs About Roses," "Los Angeles Be Kind," and the poppy yet earnest "Don't Take Off The Gloves."

In Hutchinson's own words, "I started a band called Frightened Rabbit. In that time I've dedicated so much of my life to that good wee band with a stupid name, I felt it was time to indulge John."

Now you can indulge in Owl John for yourself above via Spotify, as well as purchase the album on Owl John's official website or Amazon.
