Cleveland-based band Cloud Nothings stopped in Seattle to perform four tracks for KEXP Radio off their latest full-length, Here and Nowhere Else. Watch above.
They kick off the set with "Psychic Trauma," one of their singles and best-known songs, followed by "I'm Not Part of Me." Both tracks are melody-driven, with spurts of sped-up punk-influenced instrumentation, giving listeners the best of both worlds. "Now Hear In" pulls the pace up a notch before shifting gears into overdrive with the revved up "Pattern Walks," which ramps up to an intensely fast-paced jam-out for its last sixty seconds or so.
Dylan Baldi's vocals over aggressive arrangements often recalls post-punk / hardcore of the '00s, but with thinned-out guitars and a modern twist. Each track is delivered with raw authenticity while managing to stay clean and tidy throughout various tempo changes.
During the interview segment, host Cheryl Waters recalls the last time they performed on KEXP and discussed a "shift to a heavier sound" with the last record. With the new record, Baldi says that he "feel[s] like a different person" than when they recorded 2012's Attack on Memory.
