Maroon 5's collaboration with Gwen Stefani has leaked on YouTube. Listen to "My Heart Is Open" above.
On the surface, it's a nicely crafted pop ballad with top notch production and excellent vocal performances from singers Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani. You may be asking yourself, "doesn't this sound familiar?" because it's got a lot in common with Sam Smith's current #1 hit song "Stay With Me." Of course, lots of songs sound like other songs. The other criticism of the song is that "Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes / yes, yes, yes, yes, yes" isn't a very good hook. Much like Maroon 5's previous single, "Animals," it appears they're really dropping the ball on the lyrical element of the songwriting.
"My Heart Is Open" will be officially released on Maroon 5's upcoming album called V (pronounced "Five"), which is now available for pre-order on Amazon
