Rodrigo y Gabriela are currently on tour for their latest album, 9 Dead Alive, and for their encore at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, they brought out Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo for a special performance.
Trujillo came out and started jamming the bassline to Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie" before breaking into a series of Metallica songs. The trio kicked it off with "Orion," which featured Rodrigo using a beer bottle as a slide to play the melody. The marching acoustic version of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" came next, with Gabriela's percussive playing holding down the rhythm. Their transitions from song to song were almost seamless, and hearing the blistering tracks stripped down to just two acoustic guitars and a bass is absolutely incredible. They closed with "Battery" from the 1986 classic Master of Puppets to a monstrous round of applause from the outdoor crowd. Watch the full video above. Here's hoping there will be more performances from Rodrigo y Gabriela y Trujillo.
