Robert Plant and his band, The Sensational Space Shifters, have brought us their new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar. Listen above, via NPR First Listen.
In this latest outing, Plant shows his versatility as a creative force in a band that can effortlessly go back and forth from ancient folk to space age electronic music. In terms of sheer sound, this album is about as varied as any you will ever hear. The instruments listed in the band's arsenal include bendirs, djembe, guitars, tehardant, banjo, loops, moog bass, piano, tabal, kologo, ritti, bass, drum programming, omnichord, and upright bass. Led Zeppelin were experts at pushing the envelope with different instruments and textures, but nothing they ever did was as outside the box as this latest outing from Plant.
