The boys from Brooklyn's Godmaker don't like to be pinned down to just one genre, but it's hard not to call them straight-up, no-frills metal. They have just shared "Megalith," the first single from their upcoming self-titled debut.

It's a towering titan of a track, venturing into a dozen different sonic territories through its 8-minute duration, with badass riffage and crushing drums tying everything together. It's a tapestry of labyrinthian riffs, throat-shredding vocals, and almost schizophrenic shifts, but it all meshes well in the end. "Megalith" covers an album's worth of textures in the span of one song, so you can look forward to hearing how far they take it on the whole record. Listen to the track above and turn it way the fuck up.

The Godmaker LP is coming out November 11th digitally, as a cassette, and somewhat befuddlingly, as a book. Drummer Jon Lane spoke with Zumic about the band's overall style and just what the hell it means to release a record as a book:

Everybody hates categories / sub-genres. Godmaker gets doom, stoner, and all other sorts of metal lobbed at us -- sometimes even Southern -- and rightfully so. You can hear everything from greasy, swingy rock to ugly discordance in our songs. There are two unifying themes across the board, though: "big" and "no boundaries." We tend to just describe our genre as "loud." Very loud.

The LP will come in straight digital form, through Aqualamb, and in a limited edition cassette from Dullest Records -- but the coolest bit is the book. Also thru Aqualamb, it's a 5" x 8" paperback, which will be filled with 100 pages of art relating to the record, lyrics, and photos, as well as an album download code. Think of it as a CD booklet on steroids.

Look for Godmaker at Auqalamb's official website, and for more, check out the band's Facebook page.
