Today, Conor Oberst released another music video to supplement his fifth studio album, Upside Down Mountain. The apocalyptic setting of the "Common Sense" video serves as a continuation of the narrative from "Zigzagging Toward The Light," a music video Oberst released earlier this year.
At the beginning of "Common Sense" a faceless female voices asks Oberst, "Do you have any regrets?" The question is very appropriate as the camera then follows the young man around drinking his sorrows away with clips of his life before the apocalypse woven in between.
The video, despite its intricate plot, is filmed simply. The clean style of the music video allow Oberst's beautiful lyrics to be highlighted. He sings words that are poetic, but understandable, which you can hear in the third verse when he croons, "How bittersweet is love's illusion / Feelings that cannot be proven."
