The Swingin' Utters are getting ready to release Fistful of Hollow, their third record since their 2010 reunion, and they've shared the title track as the album's first single.
"Fistful of Hollow" is a new evolution for the Utters. It's a driving, relentless punk rock song, but there's something matured and melancholy about it. Written by guitarist Darius Koski, the track pulls from many eras of punk rock, but it keeps a level head on its shoulders, focusing more on thoughtful lyrics than hardcore sounds. Frontman Johnny Bonnel spoke to Alt Press about the tune:
"Fistful of Hollow" is one of my favorite Darius songs. It ranks up there with "From The Observatory," "My Glass House," "Teenage Genocide," and "Beached Sailor." He continues to influence me in my song-writing and grumpy drunkenness.
The band also describes the album on SoundCloud:
Classic street-punk with a wide array of folk, country, garage-rock, and honky-tonk embellishments, Fistful of Hollow continues to leak into new territory with their ever-expanding infusion of influences.
Fistful of Hollow is out November 11th on Fat Wreck and you can pre-order it through their official website. The Utters are heading out on a North American tour in support of the record beginning November 6th. Check out the full dates on their Zumic artist page.
