Today, Phish released a LivePhish video of "Simple" from their August 29th performance at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Prepare to embark on a musical journey as you watch the 22-minute clip above.
The upbeat song starts out with the band singing the verses in unison. There are professional cameras that capture amazing crowd shots and close-ups of the band. Near the four-minute mark is when they break away from singing and begin to flow into a hypnotic jam. Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio blend their playing and feed off each other as the song continues. Trey takes charge with a solo while Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon drive the jam into an energetic frenzy. Page's wah-wah playing eases the tension and puts the song into a lengthy funk groove. The song ends with a spacey outro and the band segues into the next tune. The live clip is a great example of the chemistry the band shares while playing.
You can purchase the complete performance as a download on the LivePhish official website. If you haven't done so yet, listen to Phish’s latest album, Fuego, here on Zumic. The album is also available on iTunes and Amazon, as well as their Phish Dry Goods website.
