Today, Freddie Gibbs released the remix to his song "Knicks," with verses from Queens rapper Action Bronson, and Brooklyn rappers Ransom and Joey Bada$$. The original version of the song was featured on Gibbs' collaborative studio album with producer Madlib, Piñata, which was released in March. The remix serves as the first song released off their upcoming fourth collaborative EP, Knicks Remix EP, which will be released on November 18th.
Gibbs is trying his best to keep street rap alive in a world where pop-driven rap songs dominate the charts and airwaves. The song simply discusses one main aspect of a hustler's lifestyle: selling "nickel bags" on the corner. Each rapper discusses a hustler's different experience with selling drugs over Madlib's smooth, piano-driven beat.
