Bela Lugosi's iconic stare used to be all it would take to instill fear in the hearts of children, but nowadays, movies have to resort to brutal, graphic violence and visceral gore. The horror films of yesteryear seem tame by modern standards and Bobby "Boris" Pickett's "Monster Mash" seems downright quaint. So, Barely Political, the folks behind the Key of Awesome YouTube series, made an updated version of the classic Halloween song more suited to the new generation of movie monsters.
"Modern Monster Mash" sees the narrator of the original song pick things back up where he left off. The Boris Karloff-inspired Frankenstein invites all the most popular horror icons -- Leatherface, Jigsaw, Hannibal Lecter, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, the girl from The Ring -- but he neglects to realize that these sons of bitches will eviscerate their dates, his staff, and the other guests. The modern monsters eventually relent, but it may be too late for poor old Frankie. Watch the clip above.
