This Saturday night, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will continue Austin City Limits' 40th season, and they've released a web exclusive clip of the episode as a preview. Watch their performance of "Stagger Lee" above.

Cave parlays the epic Murder Ballads track into a performance almost twice as long as the album version, with frothing, manic energy and a relatively subdued backing band. The hyper-violent story of Stagger Lee unfolds as Cave thrashes about the front rows and the dynamic music ebbs and flows with the plot. The song goes well past its typical ending with the addition of a verse in which the devil comes for Stag, and the band brings it to a cacophonous close.

Nick Cave's episode of Austin City Limits airs this Saturday, November 1st, at 9 PM ET. Pick up Murder Ballads on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
