Foxygen INTERVIEW & PERFORMANCE ON NPR WORLD CAFE

SETLIST

Foxygen NPR WORLD CAFE SETLIST:
"How Can You Really"
"On Blue Mountain"
"Coulda Been My Love"
"Everyone Needs Love"

After host David Dye explains that Sam France broke a mic stand during their performance (which is apparently a regular occurrence), Foxygen begin with the ear pleasing rock sound of "How Can You Really." Wasting no time in between songs, they go straight into the dreamy synth driven tune "On Blue Mountain." Midway in, the song's energy picks up and France's shifting vocals are skillfully supported by backing vocalists. The tune comes to a frenzied ending as the crowd applauds. "Coulda Been My Love" slows down the pace with a soulful groove. There is a Mick Jagger quality in Sam France's singing as he woefully admits someone could have been his love.

The interview focuses on Foxygen's new album ...And Star Power and the making of it. The band shares stories about how they experimented with sound from very young ages, and how that's influenced the production of their records now that they're professional musicians. They also discuss their wild stage antics, and San Frances lists the many body parts he's injured during performances.

"Everyone Needs Love" closes out the segment with beautiful backing vocals that shift from low to high. Firm basslines run underneath as the song travels along a sonic roller coaster of guitar and keyboard notes. This performance is a nice indication of the type of intensity that the band brings to their live shows.

...And Star Power was released last month, and you can pick it up on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
