UMe records has shared a remastered live version of "Sweet Jane" which will be on the super deluxe reissue of The Velvet Underground's self-titled album.

What you are listening is one of the early drafts of the song which was recorded in 1969 at The Matrix in San Francisco. The more well-known version was released about a year later on the band's fourth studio album Loaded. It wasn't until 1974, when the group came out with 1969: The Velvet Underground Live, that this version was distributed to a larger audience.

Besides the supreme restoration of the track's sound quality, there are a few key differences with this version. One of the them is the tempo. This take on the song is a lot slower and relaxed than its successor on Loaded. Another big change is the arrangement of the lyrics. The lyrics "Anyone who ever had a heart / Wouldn't turn around and break it / And anyone who's ever played a part / Wouldn't turn around and hate it" appear right at the beginning of the song instead of being right before the bridge. There are also verses in this song that don't appear in the studio rendition. This is a track that a Velvet Underground connoisseurs will truly appreciate.

The super deluxe reissue of The Velvet Underground can be pre-ordered on Amazon (CD).
