I'm gonna come out and say it: As an old hip hop head, the emergence of Your Old Droog is the most exciting thing to happen to hop hop since Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse. His lyricism is top notch, his voice is silky smooth, he's funny, and he talks about real shit I can identify with.

The interview starts with an extended intro spoken by Sway. The mysterious rapper gives us some details about himself over the course of the interview. He's 25 years old, and from Coney Island, Brooklyn. On the subject of bloggers trying to figure out his identity, he says, "it was creepy."

Sway 'aint got the answers, but he knows the questions to ask. He gets some details about YOD's influences, who are specifically named as Big L, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Cassidy, and Lloyd Banks. The two guys that get credit for the beats and production are RTNC and DJ Skizz. Your Old Droog came up as a battle rapper, and talks about picking his own beats on this project as opposed to "industry beats" that had already been done by other rappers.

When Sway asks about Your Old Droog's ethnicity, he says he's Ukrainian but Puerto Rican until proven otherwise. They get into his nationality and heritage, with YOD saying he has a small family that left the Soviet Union and came to New York City. Halfway through the interview, they play the "Bad To The Bone" Remix that appears on the new album. Check that out on Spotify:

After the song, the ladies talk with Your Old Droog about what "Your Old Droog" means (he responds, "Friend" in Russian), the kind of women he likes, and more. Then they take some calls. Afterward, it's time for the Five Fingers Of Death, in which Your Old Droog flashes his exceptional talent. DJ Wonder gives him some great beats. He's a throwback and he knows it, throwing down sick lines like "Back in the line of fire / Sayin' my style's dated is like checkin' to see if wine expired."

Your Old Droog is available on Amazon (MP3) and iTunes.
