System Of A Down performed at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas over the weekend, making this the band's first and only live show of 2014. They delivered a one-hour set spanning their career, playing at least one song from each of their five albums (I'm counting Mezmerize / Hypnotize as separate pieces). Other performances from the night included Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Incubus, and more.
With no new music since 2005, and no word on a future album, it can be easy to dismiss SOAD as a nostalgia act. However, this band of Armenian-Americans prove to us that they're much, much more. System give a performance worthy of their legacy, showing they haven't missed a beat since the release of their self-titled debut back in 1998. All they need now is a new album and they'll be poised to conquer the world, and reclaim their place as rock royalty.
