How I Wrote That Song: Dave Grohl / Foo Fighters "I Am A River"

Last night, the Foo Fighters stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform "I Am A River." The song is from their recently released album Sonic Highways. Watch them rock out above via YouTube.

Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Chris Shiflett slowly build the song's momentum for the first two minutes with gently picked notes and clear vocals. The song then proceeds to explode into a hard rocking tune while Dave passionately delivers the lyrics. It's not until towards the end where we hear the orchestra's contribution. Violins and cellos help to give the song a classical touch and powerful ending.

You can listen to the Sonic Highways album here on Zumic.

Sonic Highways is currently available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
