Austin psych rockers The Black Angels will have a song on an upcoming 4-song compilation titled Riley Hawk: Northwest Blow Out, which will be released as a free download on January 20th. Above, you can listen to their contribution, "Waterloo Waltz."
A kaleidoscope of heavily distorted guitars dominate the track with brief moments of relaxed guitar strumming. The song settles into trancelike grooves while Alex Maas provides echoed vocals. Calm moments give way to loud bursts of guitar, making "Waterloo Waltz" a psychedelic masterpiece of a tune. The "waltz" puts the timing in 3, and the riff sounds like the Allman Brothers Band's "Whipping Post."
Other bands on the compilation include Kadvar, LOOM, and Hot Lunch. All the tracks on Riley Hawk: Northwest Blow Out were chosen by pro skater Riley Hawk and the release is tied to the upcoming video series Scion x Riley Hawk: Driven, which follows him and the Shep Dawgs skating at their favorite skate parks in the Pacific Northwest.
