The music video, which is dedicated to her late brother Miyagi who died of cancer in 2012, displays Aiko's ascent to heaven after a car crash. Memories of her life flash before the viewer's eyes, and Aiko is even seen kissing her daughter, with whom she was involved in a real life car accident in 2013. Her daughter appears in the video, playing the part of a young Jhené Aiko during the flashback scene.

The question, "Is it strange for me to say that if I were to die today there's not a thing that I would change?" opens up the song and acts as the icebreaker for existential conversation. As the verse continues, Aiko says, "I've lived well. Maybe I have made mistakes and been through my fair share of pain, but all in all, it's been okay." The look on her face and the words she is saying make the listener believe that she is content with her time here on earth.

However, the second verse names activities Aiko will miss about human life, and it doubles as a list of things she misses doing with her brother. "Flying kites and water fights / Summer nights, we'd ride our bikes," paints a picture of youthful innocence and provides a contrast to the satisfaction displayed in the first verse.

Souled Out is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). You can also stream the album and read our review right here on Zumic.
