Clever and casually cut-throat, Aussie-born Courtney Barnett just released the official music video for her latest single, "Dead Fox." Stylistically, the video is colorful and quirky, a fun contrast to Barnett's deadpan vocals. Cartoon animals are seen peacefully driving cars until a crazed, grumpy-looking fox experiences a hint of road rage. This results in a squished human couple and moments of gory roadkill that Barnett compares to Jackson Pollock paintings.

Thematically, the song can be interpreted as a kind of reckless abandonment regarding the environment and big businesses. Carefully constructed around a melodic guitar, it's easy to ignore the serious side of the song and simply bob your head to "If you can't see me, I can't see you." The charm of the song ultimately lies in its subtlety and the way the message also happens to be a catchy ear worm.

Courtney Barnett released her debut album back in March, titled Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit which is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). Stream the album and read our review here on Zumic.
