We all know that Alt-J is a quirky band, but their performance of "Every Other Freckle" at BBC's Radio 1 Big Weekend proves to be surprisingly subdued. Each musician stations themselves behind a microphone and never wander far, creating a very moody yet ethereal ambience.
Despite the band's overall mellow vibe on stage, "Every Other Freckle" is inherently playful and dry in its lyrics, while the music itself cascades in a series of colorful, melodic chants, and intricate percussion. The performance isn't one that warrants upbeat dancing and singing along, but it showcases the very essence of the band: something a little weird, warped around a talented finesse that is all their own. If you're in Britain, you can watch the full set at the BBC's official website.
