Tone and lyrical content are two of Isbell's strongest tools, and with them he is able to create a personal and earnest musical offering, allowing listeners to emotionally connect and distancing himself from the more vapid cliches of the country genre. There are some interesting differences on this track that set it apart from his praised 2013 album, Southeastern. With simple chord progressions and straightforward guitar riffs, "24 Frames" has a much more of a modern pop country core than his previous work.
