Unsmiling and a tad curt, lead singer and guitarist Doug Martsch of Built to Spill isn't the best interviewee, but he knows how to make good music. Check out the band's exclusive interview and performance for KEXP above.
In this video, the band is silent aside from Martsch, who is reluctant to open up about other bands such as the Beastie Boys and sounds slightly uncomfortable talking about Built To Spill's recent line up changes.
Clearly enjoying performing more than the Q&A, Built to Spill play a few songs from the new album, Untethered Moon, and "Stab" from their '94 album There's Nothing Wrong With Love. One of the best songs in the performance is "Living Zoo," which starts with a gentle, swaying melody. The song then quickly accelerates, gathering speed as more notes are thrown into the mix, soon climaxing and settling into an upbeat chorus.
Built to Spill just released a new album record titled Untethered Moon. You can find it on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
