Trevor Powers, stage name Youth Lagoon, is gearing up to release his third album later this year. Check out the new music video for "Highway Patrol Stun Gun" above, via the Fat Possum Records YouTube account.

The song's off-kilter, yet uplifting quality is matched nicely by the video. Powers' gold-masked companion seems a little creepy at first, but as you see the two enjoying New York City you appreciate their friendship. I mean, who doesn't love a good high-five?

However, the song does come from a dark place. Here's what Power told The Fader about the song:

With all the police brutality in the media, it seemed like every single day there was some element of chaos—but in different forms. It just got so bad. I feel like we live in this shitstorm now where there’s so many corrupt people in high places, people getting away with all this shit. So, I sat down and I decided to just write whatever came to my mind. Living in Idaho, it’s easy to feel isolated from all of these events, and that was sort of my way of dealing with it. There’s also elements of loss tied to as well. I lost one of my closest friends a couple years back, and that bled into everything. It was all these ideas put into a blender.

The album, Savage Hills Ballroom, is due out on September 25, 2015. Pick it up on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
