Earlier this month, Gregg Allman released a fantastic live album titled Gregg Allman Live: Back To Macon, GA that was recorded on January 14th, 2014 at the majestic Grand Opera House. Today, we get another taste of a great live performance that is included on that release. Above, you can watch the band perform "Whipping Post," courtesy of Gregg Allman's YouTube.
The much loved Allman Brothers classic gets a jazzy twist as horns and percussion drive the song's tempo. Gregg's vocals are adrenalized, while a bluesy sax solo from Jay Collins and an abbreviated but scorching guitar solo from Scott Sharrard add a high spirited intensity to song, which was originally written and recorded in 1969.
You can watch the previously shared live performances of "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," "I'm No Angel" and "One Way Out" here on Zumic.
Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, DVD). You can also stream the full album and read our review here on Zumic.
