"Promise Everything" - Basement [Official Full Album Stream + Zumic Review]

UK punk rock band Basement is back and better than ever with the release of their new full length album, Promise Everything, containing 10 tracks and running for a brisk 28 minutes. Listen above.

Although the album officially came out today, Run For Cover Records uploaded Promise Everything in full on their YouTube page earlier this week. It's also available on Spotify and Amazon.

Much to their fans dismay, Basement announced a temporary split in 2012 after the Colourmeinkindness EP (aka CMIK). After the brief hiatus, Basement got back together in 2014 with a three song EP, Further Sky.

It's no secret that Basement is gradually moving from a heavy, hardcore sound to a tuneful, softer one. Guitarist Alex Henery spoke with Noisey Music about this progression:

Yeah, that was a concious [sic] decision. I wanted to expand on my favorite moments on CMIK I loved the songs with strong melodies and also still wanted to keep the energy from previous records. So "melody" and "energy" were the main criteria for this new album, fusing them together well was our main goal. And I think this is the most cohesive record we have ever made. It flows better than our past efforts, and I think the song writing is some of our best. Also the production from Sam Pura gives it a bold sound, without sounding over the top.

The first track, "Brother's Keepers," starts off the album with head banging guitars, upbeat drums, and edgy vocals. Halfway through, however, the song drastically slows down before speeding up once more. This transitions well into the next track,"Hanging Around," which has lively guitar riffs and switches into a dark chorus.

"Aquasun" is one of the singles off of Promise Everything. Basement recently put out a music video for the song, filmed and directed by guitarist Alex Henery. With delicate guitars and lighthearted melodies, "Aquasun" is one of the softer tunes off the album.

Songs like "Submission," "For The Moon," and the title track, "Promise Everything" shift back to Basement's older, grungier sound. These tracks feature uneasy, emotional vocals, heavy drums, and blaring guitars. Even with these qualities, Basement manages to blend in the melodies and energy they were aiming for.

Songs we recommend are "Brother's Keepers," "Hanging Around," "Aquasun," "Submission," "For The Moon," and "Blinded Bye."
