Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, the Norwegian DJ and record producer who goes by his stage name Kygo, has been called "the king of tropical house" after remixing a myriad of hit tracks for famous artists like Dillon Francis, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran.

After breaking through with remixes, Kygo has taken the next step as an artist in his own rite by releasing his debut full length album, Cloud Nine, this past Friday. The album showcases his unique style, capturing the breezy electronic dance music sub-genre of tropical house by exuding a beachy, feel-good vibe.

Aside from the Intro, which is instrumental, each song features a different vocalist, including big-name artists like John Legend, Conrad Sewell, Tom Odell, and Foxes. The variety of singers adds diversity to the album and helps reach out to a wide audience.

In an interview with CoEd, Kygo talked about the assortment of musical inspirations that had an effect on Cloud Nine:

I’m always trying to evolve my sound. I listen to all sorts of genres, from classical music to hip-hop to even big-room EDM in order to pick up inspiration — I’m thinking my album is definitely going to spring a few surprises.

Leading up to the album release, Kygo made a big impression by gaining one billion streams on Spotify on the strength of the advance singles "Stay," "Stole the Show," and "Firestone." In the week following the release, "I'm In Love," "Oasis" and "Raging" have also become popular on iTunes.

With summer approaching, Kygo's tropical house jams are a solid soundtrack for a good time. Some tracks have explosive beats for the dance floor, while others have mellow grooves for just hanging out. A couple standout tracks that may not be hits are "Nothing Left" and "For What It's Worth."

Cloud Nine is a catchy album but certainly could've been improved. Although many songs in the album sound good, a few of them seem repetitive. Also, the lyrics for some tracks lack passion and deep meaning, with dull titles like "Happy Birthday" and "I'm in Love."

Cloud Nine is out now and available to purchase on Amazon. You can also stream the full album above, via Spotify.
