For those who aren't familiar with MONKEY3, they are a Swiss band who have been crafting bold psychedelic rock for over 15 years. Yesterday, they premiered "Abyss," the opening track on their upcoming record Astra Symmetry. Listen above, courtesy of Napalm Records' YouTube.
The track's heavy driving bass riff and metal-influenced vocals lend it a prog-rock vibe. "Abyss" begins with a trance-inducing ambient progression as clanging percussion and dark harmonies bring an Eastern flavor into the mix, which builds and climaxes during a vibrant slide guitar solo toward the end.
Due to be released September 2, Astra Symmetry is MONKEY3's fifth studio album and their first without founding member Picasso. Pick it up on their label's website.
