Americana group Shovels & Rope have shared a track titled "I Know," that will be on their upcoming third studio album, Little Seeds. Watch the music video above, courtesy of the band's YouTube.
Band member Cary Ann Hearst spoke with The Wall Street Journal about the song's meaning:
No matter what career you’re in, you find petty jealousy... This is a story about two bands that came up together and were friends, but in competition – you’re watching each other and feeling mutually jealous. It’s a silly expression of that.
"I Know" showcases the band's ability to deliver a foot-stomping tune centered around an electrified blues shuffle and raw harmonies, recalling a style similar to English rock band T. Rex.
In an email to Noisey, the band talked about the music video:
Competition can be an ugly side of show business, where friendly rivalries can devolve into petty jealousies... In our video for “I Know,” we dress those ugly feelings up all pretty and pit them against each other in a beauty contest.
Little Seeds is scheduled to be released on Oct 7, 2016 through New West Records. Pick it up on Amazon.
