On September 17, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats played the 31st annual Farm Aid benefit concert, where they brought their punchy style of blues-soaked Americana-soul to a large crowd at the Jiffy Lube Live ampitheater in Bristow, Virginia. For those of us that couldn't make it to the show, Farm Aid has uploaded the complete set (above) to their YouTube page.

Opening with the boisterous "I Need Never Get Old," Rateliff & The Night Sweats kicked things into gear right off the bat. Full of energy, the band showed no signs of slowing down as they played "Look It Here," "The Intro," and "Howling at Nothing," before finally mellowing out with the bittersweet "Wasting Time" and the easy grooving "Shake."

As the band launched into those last two songs, and the audience was right there with them. A smiling Rateliff told the crowd:

A couple of years ago, I would have thought I'd never be here with all you guys. Joseph (Joseph Pope III, the band's bassist) and I have been playing music together for over twenty years. We were just two poor kids from Missouri, and it's a pleasure to be here with all of you today.

To close out their set, The Night Sweats picked up the pace with "Out on the Weekend" and "Trying So Hard Not to Know" before finishing their performance with the blistering "S.O.B." which segued seamlessly into The Band's "The Shape I'm In."
