Queens of the Stone Age prove that they are still major players in the rock world with their new album titled Villains.

The band's seventh studio LP features 9 songs covering 48 minutes, and was produced by Mark Ronson. Band members include Josh Homme (lead vocals, guitar), Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Michael Shuman (bass, vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums). The album's cover was designed by British artist Boneface, who also worked on the artwork for 2013's ...Like Clockwork.

After an extended intro on the first track, "Feet Don't Fail Me," the song kicks into gear with the band's familiar sultry rock riffs. "The Way You Used To Do" is upbeat with rockabilly and pop sensibilities, and "Fortress" is a mid-tempo jam with psychedelic effects, distorted guitar, fluid bass, and Homme's airy vocals.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Josh spoke about the album's lyrical themes, saying, "The one line that is sewn through the record is the idea of 'now'...Now is all you'll ever get, and there's no reason for you to wait. If you wait to do something, you're probably making a mistake."

"Head Like A Haunted House" picks the album's energy back up with quick drums, fast-paced guitar strumming, and a spiraling bass track. "The Evil Has Landed" has a swirling garage rock vibe, and shifts momentum towards the end by taking a punk rock approach. "Villains Of Circumstance" closes out the album in epic fashion.

Overall, Villains finds QOTSA taking a more relaxed approach with their jams, and the dark vibe that clouds ...Like Clockwork seems to have been lifted. Fans will recognize the band's swinging rock style and psychedelic elements throughout the LP.

Songs we like are "Feet Don't Fail Me," "The Way You Used To Do," "Fortress," "Un Re-Born Again," "Hideaway," "The Evil Has Landed," and "Villains Of Circumstance."

Villains is available on Amazon. You can also stream the full LP above, via Spotify.

The band will be heading out on a North America tour beginning in September. For concert tickets and more, check out the Queens of the Stone Age Zumic artist page.
