Hip hop fan, gangsta wannabe, and thirsty U.S. Senator Marco Rubio went off the rails on the floor of the Senate yesterday, quoting Wiz Khalifa, Jay-Z and The Godfather movie during Rand Paul's Filibuster of CIA Director Confirmation.

The Senator used the phrase "modern day poet" to reference Khalifa's song "Work Hard, Play Hard" when commenting on his Senate colleagues' work ethic. The senator explained, that they expected to be "back in the home state playing hard, but I'm happy we're still working hard on this issue". Was this reference out of line? Check out the lyric video for the song, with plenty of N***** bombs and the fantastic line that Washington politicians can surely relate to:

I got so much money I should start a bank
So much paper right now in front of me it's hard to think

A lot of people would say that Republican tactics to block an important presidential nomination isn't exactly hard work. The essence of a filibuster is just to waste time and prevent getting any work done, evidenced by Rubio's flimsy pop culture references here that had absolutely nothing to do with effective governing or the extremely important subject of who will become the CIA Director.

The classic Godfather quote "an offer he can't refuse" showed up in reference to an inability to compromise with President Barack Obama. Rubio says the offer was straight forward, but of course the original quote implies that the Republicans would have said "either your brains or your signature are going to be on the contract" which is why it couldn't be refused. Was Rubio threatening the President or has he just never seen the movie? Click here to hear the original movie quote.

To round up the argument, Rubio used Jay-Z's "A Week Ago" to say that George W. Bush was criticized more than Obama has been. Yeah, a lot can change in a week... Someone should tell Rubio that George W. Bush led the country into a recession through awful management and left the White House in disgrace over 5 years ago as our country was in the worst financial crisis in 80 years and 2 failing war efforts. Obama has earned the trust and respect of the American people, especially as it relates to national security as he's successfully navigated wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
