Twenty one years since the release of their debut EP Opiate, heavy metal group Tool are in the process of recording new material.
Fans have long awaited the band to create the heavy raw, visceral sounds they are famous for. In the meantime, the reissue of the Opiate EP will feature five different variations of album artwork crafted by guitarist Adam Jones in collaboration with comic book illustrator Adi Granov. Also included in the reissue package will be a golden ticket hidden inside one in every thousand copies. Jones says the band hasn't decided what the ticket will get you, probably not a trip to the chocolate factory but more likely free tickets to a show.
When asked about new Tool music Jones had this to say,
"We live kind of cushy lives now, so we get together when we want. It makes everything go slow, which is unfortunate—we all would have liked to have been done with a new record a long time ago—but when it’s done, it’s gonna be good. And that’s the point. We’re not gonna put out something that sucks just to put it out. We also had two really bad things happen, things that I’m not gonna get into, that set us back emotionally and mentally. But we’re past them now, everybody’s recovered, and that process has kind of actually added to us focusing on being creative. So maybe sometimes bad things happen for a reason.
Until the time comes for the new album to be released fans are just gonna have to take Jones words on faith and hope Tool will be able to live up to their daunting reputation.
