As we previously noted in February, Morrissey cancelled the remainder of his US tour and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. It has now come to light that The Smiths frontman has been advised by doctors to retire from touring altogether. The british rocker opened up in an interview with Mexican radio station, The Reactor 105.7. The tour was officially cancelled because of "medical mishaps," including pneumonia, Barret's esophagus, and a bleeding stomach ulcer, which he reported to be quite serious:

"I had a very bad time. I had internal bleeding and I was rushed into hospital and I had lost a lot of blood. They tried to patch me together over the following five weeks but it didn't work. ... I was on lots of IV drips for almost five weeks, and each time it seemed as though I was back to robust health I would decline ... I had lost so much blood I had become anemic, but I'm still receiving ongoing treatment.

The worst of it seems to have passed and Morrissey is optimistic now. When asked if he would actually retire, he responded, "I have been cautioned to, but it's difficult for me because it's very ingrained in me."
