Canadian scientists at the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University found that listening to new music is good for you.

According to NME, this team of scientists used MRI scans "to establish that areas of the reward centre of the brain become active when people hear a new song for the first time". They discovered that in the nucleus accumbens area of the brain, the connections become stronger when a listener enjoys the music they are listening to.

During this study, scientists played 19 volunteers 60 new pieces of music, with the opportunity to buy the songs they liked.

After discovering the stronger connections in the nucleus accumbens, scientists are now trying to figure out what drives someone's musical tastes and why people like different types of music.
